More girls have been named for Sarah than for any other woman in the Bible.  Her majestic name has been given to her by God himself as he chose her to be the mother of the Jewish people.  “Sarai (Princess) shall no longer be called Sarai but Sarah (Chieftainess) I will bless her and give her a son.  I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations, and rulers will issue from her.” (Genesis 17:15 – 16)

What interests me on Sarah is her multifaceted personality, her powerful self awareness her absolute loyalty to Abraham and her people.  She is described as wife, equal partner, best friend and accomplice in many endeavors political and otherwise, a woman of enormous spirituality.  It is speculated that she had influence and power in her own right as a high priestess of the Goddess cult in Ur and Haran, and she carried herself throughout her life with a confident authority.

This version is from the time Sarah was given to the Pharaoh- hence the expression-

Imagine all of this in a woman over four thousand years ago—amazing!

I wanted to capture the moment that Sarah young, beautiful, proud & brave, let her hand slide of the hand of her husband Abraham. The moment when Sarah, to get save passage for her people across the domain of the Pharaoh who was not their friend. The plan to pose as Abraham’s sister rather then his wife was carefully planned and had to be an awfully difficult decision. It led to her being called to the Pharaoh’s house of women.

The telling of women in the Old Testament sacrificing enormously for their people occurs often- Sarah is one of them.
